All-American Girls Professional Baseball League

The other night we were looking for something to watch on the telly, and came across a film that we have seen many times before. It was Penny Marshall’s “A League of Their Own”. It was the story of professional women’s baseball in the 1940’s and 50’s. It got me thinking about the true details of the league, and the rest is, shall we say, today’s FamSite.

Called the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, this site is a testimony to the ladies of summer, the ones that played the game for the love of the game. Here you can find out about the league history (it went from 1943 to 1954), the rules the girls had to live by, team rosters and photos, and of course, the ever popular statistics categories.

This league played a major part in the morale of our country during World War II. It made an impact (in it’s own way) in the woman’s rights movement. It is a great site for anyone who is interested in sports, so enjoy your stop here.
